These rolls are similar to the previous plaited cheese rolls, the only difference is that, i added 1 tbsp of cocoa powder and some chocolate chips. Didn't plan initially to bake anything yesterday afternoon, but when Hub went out for his neck massage, i decided to bake some buns to fill up that free period. Since it was a last minute thingy, i had no choice but to use the chilled fresh milk directly from the fridge.
And..wrong decision. ** People, never bake without proper planning at last min. If you do, pls do something easy and straightforward, like butter cakes.**
I believe it was the milk, perhaps too cold that the dough didn't rise a bit even after proofing for an hour. Hub thought it could be the chilly and dry air as it was still snowing outside, and for that i actually put the dough in our warm room to let it proof soundly at somewhere near the radiator. After three hours of waiting and yet, dough still looking small, i finally gave up and shaped them as desired before an additional hour of 2nd proof. The stupid dough only got into the oven at nearly 9pm, and that was six hours from the time i started!
Surprisingly, the result wasn't as bad as i thought after all. I thought i would get a hardrock bun, but it was soft and fluffy the moment it came out from the oven. Infact, it smelled so good Hub quickly grabbed a small piece for himself, something which he rarely does at night!

Nevertheless as predicted, the buns turned harder this morning and had to be warmed in the oven before consumption. I tried to snap some pics to show how hard the bun got, but somehow, my photography skill is kinda limited so this is the best i could do: ***hehe*
did u notice like there's this portion that looks underproof and dense?
