In my effort to shed some grams yesterday (i'm nearly back to my normal weight!), i decided to do some bread making. Have been baking lotsa cakes and tarts for the past 4 years, but never really thought of improving my bread kneading skill. I used to dread, hessitate, and then dread again when comes to homemade breads, and i totally respect housewives who would go all the trouble to get that fresh loaf coming out of the oven daily. I do acknowledge that there is this thing called bread machine, which can save you tons of trouble, but bread making is never fun without kneading with one's bare hands. I guess it's the conflict in me, one part of me thinks it's troublesome and painful, and the other says it's fun, good calorie burner process, well, at least better than hill climbing (Sorry Hub, i have to admit this, but i will still go climbing with you).
To be perfectly honest, my bread making desire came because i ran out of quick breakfast ideas. And healthy ones too. To me, quick means waking up to something which had been prepared in advance, and i only need to ding dong ding dong in less than 10 mins to come up with a healthy scrumptuous breakfast. Bread is often one of my solutions to this and no doubt it is the healthiest too. Well, at least better than cakes or tarts right? The nearest bakery is about 5 mins drive from home, while i find it a hassle to have to drive out to grab a loaf once in every two/three days.
In view of all the circumstances and benefits of homemade breads (plus the free exercise hehe), i made a firm resolution. I shall bake a small batch of bread/buns everyday with my bare hands starting from yesterday onwards. Different daily. Of course only when the situation allows me to. I can't promise this once my working life resumes, but i shall whenever i have all the free time in the world, like now. Unless i have a bread machine *hint* hint***
To start with, i picked these ham cheese twists. The kneading process wasn't as bad as i had experienced previously, maybe because i had finally understood how it works. Infact, i was beginning to plan the 'must have' items in my future dream kitchen, and of course, i shall never miss out a cd player/radio. Must be fun to do some aerobic steps while moving my body along with the dough to the rhythm. Or better if in front of a flat screen tv.
Anyway, let me present to you my first resoluted buns. I'm quite pleased with the result, and had one whole big twist all by myself for breakfast this morning. Most importantly, Hub likes it too, said the bread softness is just right, not too soft yet not hard at all. He loves the chewy effect that it gives and i'm happy because my man is happy. :-).
P/S: Pardon me for the poor quality of this photo as it was taken last night, fresh from the oven.More bun episodes to come............
